He started playing trombone with a brass band when he entered high school. Performed with a big band and combo at Doshisha University.
In 1969, won the Yamaha LM Competition
In 1972, he formed his own band while participating in the "Kawasaki Ryo Band" and "Otomo Yoshio Band".
Received the Shinjuku Jazz Award in 1974.
Since being ranked 1st in the SJ magazine popular voting trombone category in 1975, he overwhelmingly maintained the top position to date.
In 1979, moved to New York and formed "Morning Flight" after returning to Japan. ( later changed to "Orissa") During this time, he also participated in "Kazumi Watanabe Kirin Band" and "Naoya Matsuooka Wesing". Co-star with Brazilians such as Alcyone João Bosco. Performed at the Hong Kong Macau Jazz Festival, Berlin Jazz Festival, Donaueschingen Contemporary Music Festival, etc.
Recorded "Pleasure" with Steve Gut and others and "So & So" with Astrud Gilberto in NY.
After that, he took a tour with Elvin Jones and fell in love with straight jazz again.
