~An Enka Great Who has Won Numerous Awards and Remained Highly Active Since His 1975 Debut Hit Kokoro Nokori~
Born in Hokkaido, enka singer Takashi Hosokawa achieved instant success when his debut single Kokoro Nokori (lyrics: Rei Nakanishi, music: Taiji Nakamura) released on Columbia in 1975, became a million-seller. At that time “Watashi baka yone” (“I must be a fool”), a line from the song, became a popular buzz phrase and Hosokwawa himself won a string of new artist awards. He also made an appearance in NHK’s end-of-year song contest show Kohaku Uta Gassen, a very unusual achievement for a newly emerging singer.
In 1982, his song Kita Sakaba became a huge hit, selling over a million copies and gaining Hosokawa his first Japan Record Award. This was followed the next year by another huge hit, Yagiri no Watashi. Also, Hosokawa appeared in Kohaku Uta Gassen for 32 consecutive years, continuing to follow his own path as one of Japan’s leading enka exponents. Celebrating 35 years in the music business in 2010, he continues to perform actively including on overseas tours in the United States, China, South Korea, etc.
